What ships today, and what's on the roadmap.

Koda is a Pre-K-8, multi-subject and multi-skill tutor — academics and physical / executive-function development — and we are building it in the open, launching with math for grades 2 to 5. This page is the single source of truth for what is live in the product today versus what is designed and still being built. The marketing pages describe where Koda is headed; this page tells you exactly where it is right now.

Shipping today

What runs in the product right now.

If it's on this list, it works in today's build. We try to keep this honest even when it's less impressive than the vision.

  • ● Live · On-device, local-only

Every model that runs does so on the device in your home — vision, language, the math verifier. Nothing leaves the house; there is no cloud in the loop.

  • ● Live · Typed-input session

While the camera-read paper loop is being built, the child enters the problem and answer through two text inputs. A deterministic symbolic-math library checks every answer — the language model never grades arithmetic.

  • ● Live · Default-silent tutoring

The supervisor stays quiet and activates on face presence. The overhead camera watches the worksheet for page stability and corners.

  • ● Live · Face presence + optional recognition

Tapping the avatar is the primary sign-in. If you enroll a photo, the face embedding is encrypted on-device and cascade-deleted with the profile. Never uploaded.

  • ● Live · Effort-based XP + adventure map

XP rewards work shown, not just correct answers — a per-problem ceiling, no reset, no streaks, no leaderboards. Three adventure worlds: space, ocean, forest.

  • ● Live · Neurodivergent accommodations

Per-child support flags (ADHD, dyscalculia, dyslexia, dysgraphia, autism). Wired today: the OpenDyslexic font, reduced motion, focus-chunk length, and mystery-drop opt-out, plus the focus timer, break screen, and visual transition warnings.

  • ● Live · Silent exam mode + review

A real timed exam mode in which the tutor goes completely silent, with a post-exam review afterward.

  • ● Live · Parent report, on demand

A per-child report of what your child worked on — viewable anytime in the parent portal, exportable as PDF or JSON. No streak counts, no shame framing, no comparison to other kids.

  • ● Live · Math, grades 2-5

The launch catalog: deepest math coverage for grades 2 through 5, plus roughly 188 short explainer videos.

On the roadmap

Designed, not yet live.

These are real parts of the plan that aren't wired into the shipping build yet. When a post describes one of them, it's describing where Koda is going.

  • ○ Roadmap · Camera-read handwriting (live-session wiring)

The on-device page-recognition engine — local MLX VLM reading a workbook image into structured problems + bboxes + student answers — is built and verified (~25 s/call after first-run weight cache). The missing piece is the live-session wiring: the supervisor still pulls typed input from the production session UI, not camera frames from the overhead worksheet. Bring that integration online and this graduates.

  • ○ Roadmap · Spoken hints

In-session spoken audio. Today Koda returns its hints as on-screen text.

  • ○ Roadmap · Trained “Hi Koda” wake word

A wake word trained on your household. Today the wake-word listener is a generic preset proxy, and it is off by default.

  • ○ Roadmap · Gaze + pencil-motion sensing

Reading a stall from gaze and pencil movement to time a hint. Today the supervisor uses face presence as its ambient signal, not per-problem motion.

  • ○ Roadmap · Voice answers

Answering aloud instead of writing — an accommodation that matters most for dysgraphia and fine-motor difficulty.

  • ○ Roadmap · Physical-skill development feedback

Observing physical and executive-function development — posture, fine-motor skill, focus and calm across a session — to give you, the parent, supportive feedback. On-device, never sold, never a diagnosis, never a behavior score for the child. We will not ship it until it has had a privacy and legal review.

  • ○ Roadmap · Deeper routing + memory

Auto-routing a dyscalculia profile to the most supportive mode at session start, and a cross-session pathway for revisiting a shaky skill.

  • ○ Roadmap · Auto-sent weekly digest

Today the parent report is viewable on demand in the portal; scheduled delivery — the Friday SMS + email digest — is being wired (opt-in, off by default).

  • ○ Roadmap · More subjects

Beyond today's math build: reading comprehension, spelling, science, and executive-function / PE warm-ups land with starter content at launch and deepen over time. Math is the deep launch catalog.

  • ○ Roadmap · More grades

Pre-K and kindergarten below, grades 6 to 8 above.

On observing children

Observe to support, never to surveil.

Some of the roadmap above involves Koda watching more than the worksheet — fine-motor skill, posture, and how focus holds across a session. We want to be precise about why, because cameras pointed at children carry real responsibility.

When that lands, the purpose is to give you, the parent, useful feedback about your child's development — the same way a good teacher notices a kid is fading and tells you. It runs on-device. It is never uploaded, never sold, never used to score or rank your child, and never turned into a diagnosis. It is support, not surveillance — and it gets a privacy and legal review before it ships.
